MEHREEN DATOO

Dr Mehreen Datoo is a Clinical Lecturer in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, Nuffield Department of Medicine, and an Associate Fellow of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. After graduating from Medicine at King’s College, London in 2012, she moved to Oxford in 2015 for further clinical training. She achieved her PhD on the clinical development of an anti-sporozoite malaria vaccine under the supervision of Professor Sir Adrian Hill in 2023. As the clinical lead, she has been central to the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine research and regulatory applications, culminating in the WHO policy recommendation and prequalification of this vaccine.

Mehreen’s latest challenge is working on new vaccine candidates to target other malaria parasites whilst completing her Infectious Diseases and Microbiology clinical specialty training. She has worked as a medical doctor and carried out clinical research across several countries across Africa and most recently in Southeast Asia. She enjoys running, netball and travelling.
